My front end mechanic and transmission mechanic can't find anything wrong. At the end of the day, my gears are QUIET on decel and accel and high speeds (90+). That leaves wheel bearings, drive axles, trans axle and drive shaft. I took the cv axle to a shop to rebuild it and the guy inspected it and said it looked fine. I've had gears swapped in 2 prior cars and have never heard this sort of sound. The rear axle is a multi link. The benefit of the stock shaft is that the angles at each end just need to be the same. So the drive angle of the rear u-joint changes with the movement of the suspension. If the gears howl during deceleration only, itâs possible that the pinion-bearing preload has loosened or the pinion / carrier bearings are damaged. As the suspension moves the pinion angle stays close to the same relative to horizontal. Although the hints are often subtle, most impending failures give fair warning in the form of noise. No signs of overheating, cracking, pitting, etc. Apparently a Ford service engineer rep. was at the dealership, drove my car and thought the noise was acceptable according to the dealership service advisor who also stated there is a TSB to be announced about a certain level of rear gear whine being acceptable! Sounds like it's coming from the rear end. All new. A howl or whine during acceleration over a small or large speed range is usually caused by worn ring and pinion gears or improper gear set up. Replaced tires AND wheels. I've had issues with the rear end before, had to be fixed twice, so my suspicion is still there. So, that eliminates front and rear pads and rotors. same thing happened to me last week at Wally World.. i was wondering what happened to the urnals.. how embarrassed i were..sure glad that the lady was someone that i didnt know.. but i just told her that i was shopping for a new wife and left..:bang head: I crawled under the vehicle, nothing lose on the drive shaft. No vibrations. Have a groaning/low frequency vibration noise on deceleration from 60-70 mph. When cruising or accelerating everything feels and sounds normal, it's only when lifting off the gas. Brand new truck (6.4 but I think same axel) has 195 miles on it. They put new boots on it and gave it back to me. like the subject line says im getting whine on deceleration. Its not super bad but bad enough. My final backlash setting was .008 and then I installed a .006 shim on both sides to preload carrier bearings. Now the rear end just makes the whine on deceleration. Toyota carriers are setup as a completly assembled ring and pinon. The noise is loud enough to here over my radio and is not normal. When I originally discovered the noise I looked under the car and found one of the rear axles had a torn boot and had slung grease everywhere. Mechanic inspected seals and bearings, said it was tires due to dry rot. Toyota carriers are setup as a completly assembled ring and pinon. Not really bad but it's there. The noise is still there when in neutral and decelerating as well. Vibration is still there - loudest on deceleration at 45 down to 30 mph. If the gears howl during deceleration only, itâs possible that the pinion-bearing preload has loosened. On the highway at around 60 I get a rear end whine on deceleration. The TSB states, remove and replace Rear Differential. Groaning still there. If the gears have been quiet and begin to howl, they are probably worn or wearing. Personally, from research and experience i believe they should not howl. Ok Im wondering if the whine is there on decel because im at the low end ⦠Work wonderful. Several situations can create ring-and-pinion noise. Whirring noise only while decelerating at any or all speeds is most likely caused by bad pinion bearings or loose pinion bearing preload, and almost never by bad ring and pinion gears.
